St Nicholas’ Day is a holiday that falls on 6 December. It is celebrated in honour of Saint Nicholas, Bishop of Myra.
In other regions, Father Christmas takes the form of a 'Starry Man’ or Grandfather Frost.
Customs:
In Poland, small gifts, small toys and, above all, sweets are given to children on the night. In many schools, small gifts are exchanged with a prior draw for „one’s Santa Claus” (i.e. the person who will be bestowed).
Interesting facts:
-Till the 19th century, St. Nicholas Day was a public holiday.
-Rudolph and his red nose was invented for marketing purposes in 1939. Department store chain Montgomery Ward commissioned a story to boost Christmas sales.
