During my last winter break, I had the chance to visit Malta! It’s a small island, about the size of Kraków, made up of three islands: Malta and Gozo, which are inhabited, and Comino, a small uninhabited island that is a popular tourist spot. One of its highlights is the beautiful Blue Lagoon, which I will talk about later.
Malta is very easy to explore because of its great bus network. You can get almost anywhere by bus! Interestingly, the buses used to be bright yellow and had a very old-fashioned look, but today, the transport system is modern and well-organized. If you plan to visit many places, it’s a good idea to buy an unlimited travel card (which I also did). With over 300 days of sunshine a year, Malta is a perfect destination no matter the season! It has two seasons: hot summers (30-35°C) from June to September, and mild winters (15-18°C) from November to March, ideal for sightseeing.
I really enjoyed Valletta with its stunning architecture and rich history, but it was quite crowded, especially around the main attractions. The views from the Upper Barrakka Gardens were amazing, and I loved walking through the old streets, though at times, it was difficult to find a quiet spot.
Mdina was one of my favorite places. The narrow streets, historic buildings, and quiet atmosphere made it feel almost magical. It was much calmer than Valletta, which I really appreciated, and the views from the city walls were breathtaking.
The Blue Lagoon was my absolute favorite place in Malta! The water was so clear and had the most beautiful shades of blue I have ever seen. If the weather had been better, I definitely would have swum there, but I don’t regret it because I explored the island, and it was amazing. Every step had more beautiful views.
for the Blue Grotto, I had the highest expectations, but I wasn’t disappointed. When I arrived, the weather was amazing, and the sun was perfect for photos. However, after I took the pictures, a wall of rain appeared, and fog came in, so it wasn’t as beautiful anymore. But I’m really glad I caught the perfect moment and managed to take some stunning photos.
Dingli Cliffs is also one of my favorite spots, though I didn’t get to see the best viewpoint because the road was closed. Still, the walk along the cliff was amazing, and sitting on a bench there was so relaxing. The breeze from the sea and the incredible views made it the perfect spot to just pause and take everything in.
Ghajn Tuffieha Beach is said to be the most beautiful beach in Malta, but to be honest, in Kołobrzeg we have more beautiful beaches. In general, the beaches there are not that special. There aren’t many beaches where you can sunbathe, so if someone wants to relax and lie on the beach, Malta might not be the best choice for a vacation. Malta is more for people who want to spend their time actively and go hiking.
My trip to Malta was amazing! I prefer vacations where I wake up at 7 AM and spend the whole day exploring. I’m not one for just lying around or swimming in a pool. Malta was perfect for this kind of trip. It’s small, making it ideal for sightseeing during the day. The weather was absolutely perfect for exploring; it was around 18°C every day, which I found ideal for walking around and discovering the island. Definitely much better than summer when it can get unbearably hot. Malta is definitely a great destination for anyone who loves active vacations!
